Legion's AI-Generated Appellate Statement of Facts Earns Validation from Two-Time Appellate Attorney of the Year

Jeff Ehrlich reviewed Legion's output on 8,500 pages of real appellate record and called it a hybrid document he had never seen before

SAN JOSE, Calif. — February 11, 2026 — Legion today shared results from a real-world validation of its appellate Statement of Facts generator, conducted with Jeff Ehrlich – Harvard Law graduate, certified appellate specialist, two-time California Appellate Attorney of the Year, and chair of the California Academy of Appellate Lawyers' Task Force on Generative AI and the Law. Ehrlich provided approximately 8,500 pages of a real appellate record – Reporter's Transcript, Clerk's Transcript, and Appellant's Opening Brief – and Legion produced a 120-page Statement of Facts with inline record citations. The output was sent to Ehrlich with zero human edits.

Ehrlich described the output as a hybrid document he had never seen before – a comprehensive record summary organized like a statement of facts, with citations supporting every factual issue presented at trial. "It doesn't just give me a witness by witness summary, or an exhibit by exhibit summary," Ehrlich said. "It places the specific evidence in the context of the factual issues that were relevant to the overall trial." No existing tool had produced that structure for him.

The appellate Statement of Facts generator is a Legion Armory project – the company's internal R&D lab. The tool is not yet available to the public. Legion is continuing to develop and refine the workflow before release.

“I think it's amazing. What I'm struggling to say is that it puts the entire record in context, in a way I have never seen before.”

— Jeff Ehrlich, Certified Appellate Specialist and Two-Time Appellate Attorney of the Year

Ehrlich has 205 reported appellate opinions, has argued before the U.S. Supreme Court, and has defended over $400 million in judgments. He also serves as editor-in-chief of Advocate magazine and chairs the California Academy of Appellate Lawyers' Task Force on Generative AI and the Law.
